Individuals come to therapy by themselves for a host of reasons. Often, they want to learn a skill, solve a problem, or gain a better understanding of an important relationship or situation occurring in their lives. Difficulties with family, work, or significant others can drive the process initially, but once we gain understanding and develop necessary skills, problems tend to resolve creating space for tackling new territory. Clients at this stage of treatment often seek assistance with exploring existential questions such as “Who am I?”, “What is my purpose in life?”, or “How do I add value to the world?” Individual therapy can provide us the opportunity to dig in, roll up our sleeves, and look closely at our own role in creating a life filled with enrichment, purpose, and authentic meaning.
